Feistiness

I'm in a feisty mood right now. Singing and whistling and humming tunes of all kinds. We started discussing the current situation in Lebanon over lunch. Any armed forces who take refuge behind civilians automatically lose any credibility and sympathy in my eyes. If you're man enough to take up guns, you better be man enough not to hide amidst innocent civilians. GRRrrrrr. Wars and conflict and violence, particularly where innocents are concerned, REALLY gets me angry these days. My blog has already seen several posts about the Darfur so I won't go into that again. Anyone else get mad at this kind of news?

Coffee-love taken a step too far

Aussies go crazy for cat poo coffee | Lifestyle | Reuters: "'It's as good as my private life is bad. This is the kind of coffee you renounce your religion and sell your child for,' one taster quoted by AAP said."

I like my cup'o'joe, but this is outrageous. But would I drink it if I were offered some? Of course! :)

Econbrowser: Northern Ghawar is in decline

Econbrowser: Northern Ghawar is in decline: "If you end up being surprised by the big story of the next decade, you can't say, 'nobody told us.' Instead you'll have to say, 'we didn't listen.'

Stuart Staniford (Ph.D. in physics) has been conducting a very careful and detailed investigation of all that is publicly known about Ghawar in Saudi Arabia, which is by far the world's largest and most important oil field. "

I'm glad intelligent and reasonable people are looking at this question and providing us with (relatively) unbiased information. As our politicians were wont to tell us a decade ago, the new economy is all about information.

Tobacco ads

Went to see Spiderman 3 with friends from work yesterday annnd... the first 10 minutes (not exaggerating—i timed it) were filled with ads. And in the midst of all these ads was one for new Malboro Wides. Now this may not have seemed strange to my colleagues, most of whom are European, or for the other people in the audience but to me, coming as I do from North America, this was quite a shock. It took me a second to realize why I was shocked: it's because tobacco advertising has been banned for quite a while now where I come from. Plus one for Canada/USA.

Salute to a Brave and Modest Nation

Salute to a Brave and Modest Nation: "Reprinted here is a remarkable tribute written by Irishman Kevin Myers about Canada's record of quiet valour in wartime. This article appeared in the April 21, 2002 edition of the Sunday Telegraph, one of Britain's largest circulation newspapers and in Canada's National Post on April 26, 2002."

I am proud to call myself Canadian. You should be too.
